They bolted down the corridors into the storage facilities, the sound of pursuing footsteps echoing in their ears. They reached the door, and the Doctor went to work with his sonic while Fenn stood beside him, gun trained towards the approaching pursuers.

The Doctor glanced at her, "I thought you said you weren't going to hurt them!"

Fenn shook her head, "This isn't hurting them, this is self-defence!"

The door finally slid open and the two erstwhile friends slipped hurriedly inside. The TARDIS stood there, at the back of the room, almost glowing blue under the harsh white light. The Doctor ran to the door, patting down his pockets until he realised.

"I don't have a key!"

Fenn grinned cheekily at him, "Lucky I do, eh?" She pulled a bunch of keys out of her pocket, and threw one over to the Doctor.

He glared at her, "How did you get that?"

Her grin grew even wider, "Picked your pocket while you were sitting next to me at the proms. You really shouldn't keep them all in one pocket, Doctor."

The footsteps rung outside the door now, and the sound of people shouting. Delven burst through the door, along with a bunch of what looked like the equivalent of SWAT agents. Delven raised a pistol and fired a single shot, but the TARDIS door opened and the Doctor and Fenn ran through, just as the room exploded with the fiery shots of machine guns. The Doctor raced up to the console, pulling the TARDIS to another time and place, safe from the Time Agency.

He laughed with relief, "That was a close one! Let's get us somewhere safe- that's better. Right, anytime and anywhere we want, what d'you think, Fenn?"


There was no reply.


The Doctor called out again, worried, "Fenn? Did you hear me? Fenn!"


Still just silence.


The Doctor ran around the console towards the door, fear suddenly seizing his chest in an icy grip. There was no mistaking the limp form, lying broken on the floor.

"Fenn?"

He ran and crouched down beside her, gazing in horror at the blood spreading slowly across her shirt. He held her close, crying desperately, "Fenn, oh Fenn, I'm sorry, I am so, so sorry."

"Hospital," The whisper was weak and rasping, but audible. He looked down at her, "What?"

Her reply was halting as she convulsed with pain and blood loss, but the Doctor understood its meaning, "Shot... stomach... twenty minutes... hospital..."

He shouted up at the console, "Activate voice command!" A small beeping sound confirmed that it had been activated. The Doctor shouted his command through his tears, "HOSPITAL!"
